Amy Todd

Seattle, WA

Amy Todd and Blair Ducote had just celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary when life as they knew it came to a sudden stop. While Amy was driving to work early one morning, a truck swerved into her lane and hit her Volkswagen Scirocco head on, leaving her trapped with two broken legs, a crushed foot, back and neck fractures, deflated lungs and extensive head and face injuries. Rescuers extracted her from the wreck and immediately airlifted her to Harborview Medical Center, where she underwent extensive surgeries to repair the fractures and reconstruct her face. Five weeks later, she transferred to a rehabilitation center and began the battle to regain her health and ability to walk. And Blair, who took leave from work to care for her both in the hospital and at home, was with her every step of the way. Amy credits his care and devotion, as well as that of her friends and family, for her impressive recovery. “His support… that’s what got me through,” she says. “He helped me to push, to move, to get my legs back.” Today Amy suffers some paralysis in her face and walks with a cane, but she continues her fight for a full recovery.
